USGLC Welcomes Launch of Prosper Africa

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition President and CEO Liz Schrayer released the following statement on the recent announcements by the Administration on the Prosper Africa initiative:

The USGLC welcomes the launch of Prosper Africa, co-chaired by USAID and the Department of Commerce, to advance our interests and values on a continent with 6 of the 10 fastest growing economies in the world. America must remain competitive as China’s trade with Africa has grown to three times that of the U.S. To meet the goal of doubling two-way trade between the U.S. and Africa, this initiative will integrate America’s global economic development toolkit and leverage resources and knowledge from across the government, the private sector and civil society.

As effective foreign assistance programs like PEPFAR, Feed the Future, and Power Africa have demonstrated, the return on investment from development gains and economic growth are most powerful when all our resources are aligned. Our broad-based coalition members look forward to partnering with the Prosper Africa team to advance Africa and America’s economic interests.

Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
