WASHINGTON – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, released the following statement on the FY17 Omnibus Appropriations Bill:
With the world crying out for American leadership, Congress stepped up. In a bipartisan move, lawmakers delivered an omnibus bill last night that advances our nation’s security and economic interests and addresses the growing urgency of four famines in some of the most unstable regions of the world.
The funding for the State Department and USAID demonstrates strong bipartisan support as negotiations move forward on next year’s budget, particularly as proposals surface that would pull America back from the world.
I also commend Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill for recognizing the essential role Congress must play in oversight of – and as partners in – reform at the State Department and USAID.
Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
