WASHINGTON – USGLC President and CEO Liz Schrayer issued the following statement after the Senate Appropriations Committee markup of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 State-Foreign Operations Appropriations bill:
With the growing global challenges impacting America’s security and economic interests, we welcome the overwhelmingly bipartisan support for strong resources to address these threats. Specifically, USGLC applauds the Committee passage of a State-Foreign Operations bill that provides $61.6 billion in funding for the International Affairs Budget – a $3.2 billion (5.6%) increase compared to the FY24 enacted level.
This is good news when it comes to a path to ensuring America has the tools to tackle the escalating global threats—from strategic competition with China to Russia’s war on Ukraine to compounding humanitarian crises. Given the realities of the spending caps imposed by Congress, the Senate action is a strong step in the right direction.
As the appropriations process moves forward, USGLC looks forward to continuing our bipartisan, bicameral engagement on Capitol Hill and urges Congress to advance an International Affairs Budget that can protect America’s interests and values.
Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
