WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, released the following statement on the “Investing in 21st Century Diplomacy” plan released today by Senators Chris Murphy and Chris Van Hollen and Representatives David Cicilline and Ami Bera, which calls for $12 billion in additional resources for the International Affairs Budget to address the strategic global challenges of competing with China, preparing for future pandemics, and fighting climate change:
Given the devastation the global COVID-19 pandemic has caused, it would be crazy not to dramatically step up our investments in the very tools intended to protect the health, safety, and economic interests of every American family – including our diplomatic and development programs. This is a thoughtful proposal to address some of the most critical global challenges and we look forward to working with policymakers on both sides of the aisle and the Administration to ensure the International Affairs Budget is effectively resourced to meet the needs of the American people.
Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
