WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, issued the following statement congratulating Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA), who was named Chair of the House Appropriations State & Foreign Operations Subcommittee.
Barbara Lee is an outstanding choice to lead the SFOPS subcommittee at a time when America’s investments in global health, development, and diplomacy have never been more important to our nation’s health and economic security. She brings decades of experience, passion, and leadership to this role from her days championing PEPFAR and supporting the needs of underprivileged children around the world.
A longtime advocate of the international affairs budget, she has pressed for greater international COVID-19 response, saying “America serves both our interest and our values when we act in service of our common humanity.” We congratulate Chairwoman Lee and look forward to working with her and Ranking Member Hal Rogers to ensure that in the midst of a global pandemic, our nation invests in American aid and diplomacy – both essential to our economic and health recovery.
Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
