Senator James Lankford Joins Wide-Ranging State Leaders to Highlight the Local Impact of Global Engagement

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Today, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) hosted a community conversation with Senator James Lankford (R-OK), titled “America and the World: How Oklahoma Wins.” In front of a packed room of more than 350 Oklahomans, with over 10K more tuning-in online, Senator Lankford said, “We should engage because there are billions of people that are counting on America being America and exporting our greatest export: Freedom.”

“At a time when many lawmakers are being shouted down at town halls, it was incredible to witness the respect Senator Lankford garners from his constituents, who came together for a civil conversation about why American leadership in the world isn’t just important—it’s urgent,” said USGLC President and CEO Liz Schrayer. “The Senator leads with conviction, grounded in his faith and values, and we’re deeply grateful for his steadfast leadership and expertise on America’s national security, and his commitment to leveraging all the tools of national power at such a critical time.”

The Senator was joined on stage for a wide-ranging conversation alongside two panelists: Robert “Bob” Zachritz of World Vision and Lt. General Stephen M. Speakes, U.S. Army (Ret.), to answer wide-ranging questions—from Ukraine to tariffs—and emphasize how smart investments in development and diplomacy not only reflect American values—but directly support Oklahoma’s economy and security.

From $6.5 billion in Oklahoma exports last year to more than 436,000 local jobs supported by international trade, the discussion emphasized a powerful takeaway: when America leads globally, Oklahoma wins locally. Hear from the local leaders and tune in to watch the full event here:

  • Governor Bill Anoatubby of the Chickasaw Nation welcomed attendees saying, “U.S. international assistance makes America stronger at home and abroad.”
  • Mark Funke, President & CEO of the Oklahoma Business Roundtable, and Brenda Barwick, President & CEO of Jones PR—both USGLC Oklahoma State Advisory Committee members—welcomed guests and highlighted the importance of America’s leadership to Oklahoma’s international trade and agriculture exports.
  • Retired U.S. Army Lt. General Stephen M. Speakes said, “When we think of a campaign plan and how America will be successful, we never ignore the other elements that are called supporting or enabling forces. The concept of influencing hearts and minds and putting ourselves in a position to minimize damage and be a positive and, if possible, a benign force…to exert our will is very important.
  • Bob Zachritz of World Vision added, “As Secretary Rubio said, we believe in human life. We believe in freedom. How best do we invest where it’s in our interest…It has a payoff in trade and it has a payoff in stopping conflict from coming to our shores so that’s the link. We’re driven by our values…we then get to be ambassadors for our nation, and I get to be an ambassador for my faith.

Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
