WASHINGTON – Today, the House of Representatives considered a number of draconian cutting amendments to the State-Foreign Operations Appropriations bill that would have decimated America’s global development and humanitarian programs. USGLC’s President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, released the following statement:
Seeing the numerous amendments swiftly defeated over and over again that attempted to horrifically cut America’s civilian footprint around the world is a reflection of the broad bipartisan support to protect critical U.S. global development and international affairs programs.
While the overall House funding level for State-Foreign Operations is still of grave concern given the increasing threats on the global stage and the growing competition with China, today’s rejection of these isolationist winds was a critical marker for how investments in global development and humanitarian programs promote global stability, advance America’s security and economic interests, and deliver for American families here at home.
Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
