USGLC CEO Applauds Dayton Mayor’s Global Engagement Day Proclamation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, applauded a new Global Engagement Day Proclamation issued by Nan Whaley, Mayor of the City of Dayton, OH. Issued March 10, 2021, the proclamation honors Dayton’s global partnerships and impact, and is available here.

“Hats off to Mayor Whaley for her smart leadership and forward-looking proclamation that recognizes that what happens globally matters locally,” said USGLC President and CEO Liz Schrayer. “Dayton’s Global Engagement Day celebrates the rich history of this great city’s unique connection to the world, while providing a significant platform to advance the health and economic interests of families across Dayton. It’s a great model for cities across the country to follow.”

“What happens beyond our country’s borders directly impacts us back home—not just our health, but our security and prosperity as well, which is why investments in American’s development and diplomacy programs are all the more important, especially when it comes to leveraging economic opportunities overseas that create jobs at home,” said Dan Glickman, USGLC Senior Advisor and former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. “Dayton is an incredible example of how a city can harness the power of global partnerships to enrich its own community, while also recognizing the significant impacts these local-global connections have on the world’s health and economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“With more than 95 percent of the world’s consumers outside the U.S., our ability to reach them creates good-paying jobs and opportunities in communities like Dayton, where thousands of P&G employees live and work,” said Tara Hogan Charles, Senior Director, Procter & Gamble and USGLC Business Outreach Chair. “We applaud the Mayor’s proclamation and her continued support of America’s global leadership, which helps facilitate economic growth, build global partnerships, and promote cultural exchanges—ultimately driving prosperity for the City of Dayton.”

Last year, the USGLC held more than 46 virtual events across 32 states—from Boise, ID to Pensacola, FL to Cleveland, OH—which were joined online by thousands of elected officials, community leaders, business and nonprofit executive, including members of the USGLC’s Ohio State Advisory Committee. Spearheaded by former Governor Bob Taft and former Lt. Governor Lee Fisher, the committee has more than 200 business, faith, military, government, and community leaders who are committed to strong investments in U.S. global engagement to help keep America safe and strengthen Ohio’s economy.

The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (www.usglc.org) is a broad-based influential network of 500 businesses and NGOs; national security and foreign policy experts; and business, faith-based, academic, military, and community leaders in all 50 states who support strategic investments to elevate development and diplomacy alongside defense in order to build a better, safer world.
