WASHINGTON, D.C. – The USGLC President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, released the following statement on the House passage of the Global Fragility Act:
The passage of the Global Fragility Act in the House by voice vote is a critical step in upping America’s strategy to prevent extremism and promote stability in some of the world’s toughest environments.
At a time when half the world’s poor live in fragile or conflict-affected states, it is more essential than ever that we strengthen our investments in America’s development and diplomacy efforts to prevent conflict and tackle global fragility abroad before threats can affect us here at home. This legislation will help do just that.
The USGLC applauds House Foreign Affairs Committee leaders Engel and McCaul – along with Reps. Smith, Wagner, Keating, and Rooney – for championing this important bipartisan agenda. We look forward to swift consideration of this legislation in the Senate.
Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
