WASHINGTON – The USGLC President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, released the following statement on the House passage of the Global Fragility and Violence Reduction Act:
The 376-16 passage of the Global Fragility and Violence Reduction Act in the House marks another smart and game-changing bipartisan bill to strengthen America’s development and diplomacy programs. Today’s action in the House is part of a drumbeat of global development legislation that has moved through Congress to advance America’s security, economic, and humanitarian interests around the world.
This bill is particularly important for driving a more targeted and comprehensive approach to tackle the root causes of extremism, famine, and displacement. A pound of prevention is worth an ounce of a cure.
A big thank you to Representative McCaul and Ranking Member Engel, along with Reps. Cook, Keating, Poe, and Smith – who championed this bill on Capitol Hill. The USGLC urges the Senate to take up the bill as quickly as possible.
