WASHINGTON – The USGLC President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, issued the following statement on the introduction of the Food for Peace Modernization Act:
Once again, we are seeing bipartisan leadership to ensure that America’s development and diplomacy programs deliver real results – this time by modernizing our food aid programs. Thanks to the leadership of Senators Corker and Coons and Reps. Royce and Blumenauer, the Food for Peace Modernization Act is a smart reform that will enable America to save more lives by eliminating inefficiencies and increasing flexibility. With 815 million people who go to bed hungry each night, continuing to transform how USAID, its partners, and American farmers respond with agility, scale, and compassion is of critical importance for advancing U.S. interests in an increasingly turbulent world.
This bill is one of more than a dozen pieces of legislation on global development introduced in recent years. We applaud this bipartisan momentum by members of Congress working together to strengthen our development tools to deliver results for our global partners and the American people.
Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
