WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, released the following statement on the passing of former World Bank President James Wolfensohn:
“The USGLC joins our nation in mourning the loss of James Wolfensohn, a longtime member of our National Advisory Council, who was a passionate advocate for ending poverty around the world. As President of the World Bank, Jim worked to make the institution a central player in tackling international development challenges and, shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, recognized its important role in making the world a safer place. His words then ring true today, ‘Recent events have underscored again the fact that we live in one world. In this environment, global governance and global institutions play a crucial role.’
“Deeply shaped by his overseas trips and the striking economic inequality he saw across the globe, his contributions to reforming the World Bank and serving as an indispensable voice for lifting millions out of poverty will be felt for generations to come.”
Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values.
