MANCHESTER, NH – From strengthening America’s alliances to expanding opportunities for Granite State businesses, Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has championed the connections between American leadership abroad and prosperity here at home. Today, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and World Affairs Council of New Hampshire honored her three decades of public service and leadership in advancing U.S. diplomacy and effective international assistance.
Before a packed crowd of more than 200 constituents, leaders, and local press, Sen. Shaheen joined former Ambassador to Ukraine William B. Taylor for a panel discussion moderated by USGLC President and CEO Liz Schrayer on how America’s leadership on the world stage advances our national security, prevents diseases from reaching our shores, saves lives, and drives economic prosperity across New Hampshire, where international trade supports 180,000 jobs.
“The question we’re going to talk about today isn’t if what happens around the world impacts us at home, it’s if America shows up with all the tools we need to compete, to lead, and win,” said Liz Schrayer, President and CEO of USGLC. “Senator, as you look to your next chapter, we hope that you take such great pride in all that you’ve accomplished – the lives you have touched in New Hampshire, the lives you have literally saved around the globe, and the path that you have charted for the next generation.”
“Good foreign policy is good economic policy. When we have a strong foreign policy that engages with both allies and adversaries across the globe, we advance America’s interests,” said Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “It was great to join a discussion with USGLC and NHWAC at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics today about the importance and future of American leadership abroad and the role Congress can play to address global challenges.”
“Senator Shaheen’s role in supporting Ukraine as it defends itself and Europe and us against the Russians has been pivotal,” said Amb. William Taylor, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine.
“Senator Shaheen has been a household name in New Hampshire for 30 years,” said Tim Horgan, executive director of the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire. “From hosting the first international trade delegation from the state of New Hampshire to serving on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, she has always been steadfast in her support of global engagement and representing the perspective of the Granite State.”
Finally, in a series of touching video tributes shared by constituents and leaders who have seen Senator Shaheen’s impact first-hand, former U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said, “There are so few people in modern American foreign policy that have made a greater impact for America’s role in the world, America’s influence, America’s standing than Senator Jeanne Shaheen.”
