USGLC CEO Statement on Retirement of Chairman Patrick Leahy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition President and CEO Liz Schrayer released the following statement on the retirement of Senate Appropriations Chairman Patrick Leahy:

The USGLC joins Americans across the country and citizens around the world to pay tribute to Chairman Patrick Leahy as he announces his retirement after nearly five decades of outstanding service in the U.S. Senate. Chairman Leahy’s legacy of thoughtful and effective leadership and his extraordinary contributions to making the world a better, safer place will endure well beyond his tenure in Congress.

As head of the Appropriations Committee and the longtime top Democrat of the State-Foreign Operations Subcommittee, Chairman Leahy has fought tirelessly to strengthen America’s development, diplomacy, and global health programs and provide critical resources for the U.S. International Affairs Budget. Whether it is supporting human rights, reducing poverty, protecting the environment, or advancing global health, Chairman Leahy has used his respected voice to improve the lives of millions worldwide.

The USGLC was privileged to honor Chairman Leahy with our Global Leadership Award in 2012 and we look forward to continuing to work closely with him in the years ahead, in and out of public life.
