USGLC CEO Statement on Restoration of Congressionally Appropriated U.S. Funding for Gavi

WASHINGTON, DCLiz Schrayer, President and CEO of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC), released the following statement on the State Department’s release of funding for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, after sustained, bipartisan Congressional engagement:

The release of funds for the U.S. pledge to Gavi is a significant bipartisan win for America’s global health security and for saving millions of lives around the world.

This important outcome reflects months of sustained leadership from bipartisan Congressional champions—including key appropriations and authorizing leaders like Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Roger Wicker (R-MS), and Chris Coons (D-DE), and Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) and Lois Frankel (D-FL), among the dozens of Senators and House members who weighed in publicly and privately to ensure appropriated funds did not expire and were used as intended by Congress.

We are also grateful to Secretary Marco Rubio and the team at the State Department for working with Congress to release these critical resources, ensuring the United States continues its commitment to one of the world’s most effective global health partnerships.

For more than two decades, Gavi has immunized more than 1.1 billion children, saved an estimated 19 million lives, stopped outbreaks before they reach our shores, strengthened burden sharing with our partners, and supported American innovation and exports.

Gavi is a powerful example of how effective international assistance delivers for the American people and advances America’s interests. From global health and food security to humanitarian relief, these smart, strategic investments protect American families, strengthen our security, and make our nation safer, stronger, and more prosperous.
