WASHINGTON, DC – Liz Schrayer, President and CEO of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC), released the following statement on the State Department’s announcement of nearly $2 billion in new faith-based partnerships: 

Today’s announcement of nearly $2 billion in new global health and humanitarian assistance partnerships from the State Department is another encouraging investment in effective international assistance that advances America’s interests. 

The $1.4 billion global health partnership is an important step in the right direction, utilizing trusted faith-based networks to strengthen health systems and build local capacity. It’sthe kind of results-driven model—with a clear path to self-reliance—that USGLC called for in our Blueprint for America to Win in the World: a win for both partner countries and America that saves lives while helping stop health threats before they reach our shores. 

The $538 million humanitarian partnership—jointly led by World Vision and Compassion International—brings needed resources to some of the world’s most vulnerable people. By responding early and effectively, U.S. humanitarian assistance helps stabilize communities, prevents crises from escalating, and reduces the need for far more costly interventions down the road. 

Together, these new partnerships—building on the Administration’s other U.S. international assistance investments and innovations in food security and development finance—are strengthening America’s interests.   

As new funding continues to be announced, we hope these investments not only meet the challenges and opportunities but also engage additional expert partners in the private and non-profit sectors. Doing so will help ensure U.S. international assistance remains strategic, effective, and accountable—making America safer, stronger, and more prosperous.
