WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, released the following statement upon final passage of new emergency COVID-19 relief funding in Congress, including $10.8 billion for the U.S. international COVID-19 response:
The international resources just approved by Congress – along with $4 billion approved for GAVI last year – are an urgent part of our nation’s COVID-19 response. With a global pandemic impacting Americans’ lives from health to economic security, this funding is essential to stopping the virus in its tracks, mitigating devastating humanitarian crises, and helping the economy rebound.
With bipartisan support in Congress for a global response to keep Americans safe as the pandemic rages on, we now turn to working with Congress and the Administration to ensure resources in this bill are spent effectively and that U.S. leadership to stop this pandemic and prevent the next one from reaching our shores endures.
