WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, issued the following statement on the release of the House Appropriation Committee’s FY22 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations bill:
We welcome this important commitment to strengthen overall funding for America’s development, diplomacy, and global health programs at a time of unprecedented global challenges that directly impact all Americans’ health and economic interests. This is no surprise given Chairwoman Lee’s long history as a champion for the International Affairs Budget and investments in global health.
If enacted, the additional resources included in this bill for the State Department, USAID, and our other development agencies would be a critical down payment consistent with expert recommendations on what is needed to prepare for the next pandemic, tackle growing humanitarian crises, and ensure American competitiveness on the global stage.
As the FY22 appropriations process moves forward, we urge Congress and the Administration to use this funding level as the floor to ensure our international affairs investments match what is truly necessary to advance the health, safety, and economic interests of American families.
Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
