Top Retired Military Leaders on Capitol Hill to Urge Bipartisan Action to Protect and Modernize U.S. International Assistance

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, nearly a dozen retired three- and four-star generals and admirals from USGLC’s National Security Advisory Council (NSAC) convened in Washington for meetings with bipartisan leaders on Capitol Hill, as well as administration officials, to make the case for why strategic cost-effective investments in international assistance help us outcompete China, prevent threats from reaching our shores, strengthen our economy, and keep America safe.

USGLC NSAC Co-Chairs General Anthony Zinni and General Laura Richardson emphasized what they said in a recent op-ed about competing with rivals like China, “Withdrawing from America’s leadership role on the global playing field risks leaving a void for our adversaries to fill.”

The delegation included some of America’s most respected military leaders who have led U.S. Central Command and U.S. Southern Command, overseen security cooperation in Iraq and America’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, and run the U.S. Air Force Academy and the Army’s cybersecurity infrastructure.

USGLC’s National Security Advisory Council is composed of nearly 270 retired three- and four-star generals and admirals from all branches of the U.S. military, united in the belief that U.S. global leadership is essential to national security.

USGLC’s NSAC members include former CIA Director General David Petraeus, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford, former CENTCOM Commander General Joseph Votel, former ISAF Commander General Stanley McChrystal, former USPACOM Commander Admiral Harry Harris, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander General Philip Breedlove, former White House National Security Advisor Lt. General H.R. McMaster, and others who can be found on our full list here.
