Rep. Chuck Edwards Tours Manufacturing Facility, Meets with Western North Carolina Leaders on Benefits of U.S. Global Engagement

Mars Hill, NC — As global competition from foreign adversaries continues to intensify, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) hosted Representative Chuck Edwards (R-NC-11) for a visit to Advanced Superabrasives Inc., a manufacturer of equipment used in critical aerospace, defense, and automotive manufacturing that supports both U.S. national security and North Carolina’s export economy.

Rep. Edwards toured the facility and met with leaders from the veteran, business, farmer, and faith-based communities to discuss how America’s role in the world directly benefits North Carolina’s economy, security, and global competitiveness.

“Companies like Advanced Superabrasives demonstrate that when America leads on the world stage, North Carolina wins,” said Representative Chuck Edwards. “This family-owned business exports to nearly 30 countries, creating good-paying manufacturing jobs right here in Western North Carolina while strengthening partnerships with our allies. That’s the kind of win-win we get when we invest in American global leadership.”

USGLC Senior Policy Advisor Richard Parker said: “From defense manufacturing that helps protect Ukrainian airspace to cutting-edge technology operating on the Mars rover, Advanced Superabrasives and other North Carolina companies are at the forefront of America’s global leadership. This is what strategic investments in international assistance look like—supporting our allies, opening global markets to U.S. companies, and creating jobs here at home that keep the American dream alive.”

North Carolina is a major player in the world economy, with exports generating $72 billion annually and international trade supporting over 1.2 million jobs—20% of all jobs in the state. In 2023, nearly 11,000 North Carolina companies exported goods globally, with 87% being small- and medium-sized enterprises that keep the U.S. competitive on the world stage. Strategic investments in U.S. international assistance help expand these economic opportunities by strengthening relationships with trading partners and opening new markets for North Carolina businesses.

The visit to Advanced Superabrasives with Rep. Edwards is the first in USGLC’s South Summit Series, which connects Members of Congress with their constituents and community leaders to explore how America’s engagement in the world strengthens local economies, protects our national security, and showcases Southern values on the global stage.
