Former Florida Congressman Ted Yoho the New Co-Chair of U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) Florida Advisory Committee

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) announced that former longtime Florida Congressman Ted Yoho (R-FL) is taking a new leadership role on the organization’s Florida Advisory Committee.

“Congressman Yoho campaigned for the House as a skeptic on foreign aid and emerged as a leader on how smart reform of international assistance delivers for the American people,” said Liz Schrayer, USGLC President and CEO. “Congressman Yoho is an important addition to our leadership, providing a powerful, fiscal-conservative voice amplifying how targeted investments in international assistance make America safer, stronger, and more prosperous.”

“Global challenges have profound local impacts on Florida families and businesses,” said former Representative Yoho. “After arriving in Congress, I witnessed firsthand how small strategic investments overseas can help us outcompete China and other rivals, stop terror and disease from reaching our shores, and create overseas markets that support 3 million jobs here in Florida alone. USGLC’s mission and message is more urgent than ever to help America win the competition for the 21st century.”

After three decades as a successful large animal veterinarian in North Central Florida, Yoho served nearly a decade in Congress representing Florida’s 3rd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021. During his tenure, he served on both the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Agriculture Committee, including as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific. He was the leading force behind the bipartisan legislative achievement of the BUILD Act of 2018, which created the U.S. Development Finance Corporation to modernize America’s development finance capabilities, leverage greater U.S. private capital, and better compete with China’s growing influence globally.

As he articulated in a February 13 Time Magazine op-ed, Yoho initially came to Congress skeptical of foreign aid spending until congressional trips to Africa and Latin America led him to see international assistance as “a uniquely powerful soft diplomacy tool to strengthen the nation’s economy and national security”. He then served as Co-Chair of the Congressional Aid Effectiveness Caucus, where he championed reforms to ensure foreign assistance delivers value for American taxpayers.

Congressman Yoho succeeds former U.S. Representative Ander Crenshaw as co-chair of USGLC’s Florida State Advisory Committee.  The USGLC salutes and thanks Congressman Crenshaw for his years of service as state co-chair, which followed his leadership in Congress on America’s civilian international toolkit, and appreciates his sustained contributions to the organization’s success in the Sunshine State as a continuing member of the state advisory committee.

Representative Yoho joins Florida’s former Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink as bipartisan co-chairs of more than 260 leaders in the state representing non-profit, business, faith, and veteran communities—including Jeb Bush, Jr., Managing Partner of Finback Investment Partners; Hon. Carlos Gutierrez, Chairman & CEO of EmPath and former U.S. Secretary of Commerce; Hon. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, former U.S. Representative (R-FL); Hon. Betty Castor, former University of South Florida President; Hon. Buddy Dyer, Mayor of Orlando; and Paul Anderson, President & CEO of Port Tampa Bay.

USGLC was honored to host Yoho in 2018 for a groundbreaking international assistance public town hall in Gainesville, Florida, where he engaged directly with his constituents about the importance of America’s global leadership.
