USGLC CEO: Gayle Smith a Smart and Strong Choice to Continue Game-Changing Transformation at USAID

Washington U.S. Global Leadership Coalition President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, issued the following statement on the nomination of Gayle Smith to serve as the next Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development:

Gayle Smith is the right person to continue the game-changing transformations at USAID that are critical to advancing America’s economic and security interests. Throughout her career, and particularly over the past six years at the National Security Council, Gayle has played a critical role in driving reform-minded policies that are central for delivering results to American taxpayers while making a world of difference.

Whether it is her leadership on Feed the Future, Power Africa, or responding to humanitarian crises, Gayle has been a driver of key principles that have energized global development among Republicans and Democrats alike – promoting economic growth as the key to fighting poverty, improving accountability, and partnering with the private sector and NGOs.

Her relationships and respect with key stakeholders – across the community, U.S. government, and globe – will ensure a smooth transition and enable her to hit the ground running. She is one person who has the credibility and drive to get something done in the last two years of the Administration and I urge the Senate to move swiftly to confirm her.

The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (www.usglc.org) is a broad-based influential network of 400 businesses and NGOs; national security and foreign policy experts; and business, faith-based, academic, military, and community leaders in all 50 states who support strategic investments to elevate development and diplomacy alongside defense in order to build a better, safer world.

Liz Schrayer is available for media interviews.
