Washington, DC – Liz Schrayer, President and CEO of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) released the following statement on the retirement of House Appropriations Chairwoman Kay Granger (R-TX):
The USGLC joins Texans and citizens across America in recognizing the trailblazing career and accomplishments of Kay Granger as she announces her retirement after nearly three decades of service in the House of Representatives. Throughout her tenure in Congress, Chairwoman Granger has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to advancing U.S. national security and foreign policy interests, recognizing the importance of America’s civilian development and diplomacy tools alongside our military might.
The USGLC was privileged to honor Chairwoman Granger with our Global Leadership Award in 2013, having seen her leadership first-hand as the top Republican on the State-Foreign Operations Subcommittee, a post she held for 8 years. During that time, she used her powerful voice to support resources and initiatives to strengthen global stability and security, empower women and girls across the globe, and improve the health of millions in the developing world. As Rep. Granger said of her years of support for the International Affairs Budget, “It is important to remember that our investments abroad can make us more secure at home.”
On behalf of our broad-based coalition, we extend a heartfelt thank you to Chairwoman Granger for making the world a better, safer place and we look forward to working with her in and out of public life in the months and years ahead.
