USGLC Releases Annual Global Impact Project Report Showcasing Successes of Public-Private Partnerships Addressing Global Crises

Amazon, Chemonics, Coca-Cola, DAI, Pfizer, RTI International, Tetra Tech and UPS share their impactful stories

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, March 20, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) released the 2023 Global Impact Project (GIP) Report, a collection of stories that demonstrate how private businesses and non-governmental organizations are actively partnering with the U.S. government – like the State Department and USAID – to address ongoing global crises and promote greater stability and opportunity both at home and abroad. This year’s report features powerful stories from Amazon, Chemonics, Coca-Cola, DAI, Pfizer, RTI International, Tetra Tech and UPS.

The Report was launched with a reception in the U.S. Capitol with special guests Rep. Young Kim (R-CA), Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), Dorothy McAuliffe, Special Representative for Global Partnerships at the U.S. Department of State, and Michele Sumilas, Assistant to the Administrator of the Bureau for Planning, Learning, and Resource Management at USAID to celebrate these exceptional stories of game-changing partnerships.

“Humanitarian and development assistance is vital to advancing U.S. interests at home and globally,” said Congresswoman Young Kim (CA-40).“In Congress, I’m working to modernize foreign assistance programs so we can stretch every taxpayer dollar to be as effective as possible to its mission. I appreciate the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s important work on the lives improved by foreign assistance around the world.”

“From health care and humanitarian aid to democracy and economic development, the U.S. international affairs budget makes significant contributions to a more peaceful and stable world,” said Congresswoman Grace Meng (NY-06). “I commend the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and its partners for continuing to highlight the immeasurable value that U.S. development and democracy assistance provide to the world, including by supporting communities experiencing the greatest disparities. I am proud to work with USGLC and their dedicated leaders in all corners of the world.”

USGLC’s Global Impact Project Report further affirms what I’ve seen firsthand traveling the world as the Special Representative for Global Partnerships: private-public partnerships play a critical role in advancing global development priorities,” said Dorothy McAuliffe, Special Representative for Global Partnerships at the U.S. Department of State. From combatting climate change to securing critical mineral supply chains to empowering women and girls, where there is a mission match between the government and private sector, partnerships will continue to be an important diplomatic and development tool. The Office of Global Partnerships applauds and thanks USGLC for their longstanding leadership in bringing the private and public sector together to advance our shared goals.”

“We have all heard it said that there is no way our foreign assistance, whether it’s ours or a donor country, is going to fill the void and so we have to have new partnerships,” said Michele Sumilas, Assistant to the Administrator of the Bureau for Planning, Learning, and Resource Management at USAID. “We’ve been promoting something called development diplomacy, where we really look to build new kinds of partnerships, provide new kinds of tools to build those partnerships, and leverage additional resources.”

“While the growing global challenges – from conflict to humanitarian crises – are not lost on anyone in the policymaking arena, it is inspiring to see these real-life examples of not only what is working but also making the world better,” said Liz Schrayer, USGLC President and CEO. “That is why the USGLC is so proud to share this year’s Global Impact Project report – highlighting these successful public-private partnerships that are saving lives, improving economic opportunity, and ensuring greater global stability and security. A big thank you to this year’s partners for sharing their powerful stories.”

The GIP Report shows how these stories of partnerships with the U.S. Government are effectual in actively saving lives and creating positive change around the globe, especially as threats to U.S. interests continue to grow and converge. For instance, as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine threatens to destabilize a key partner in Europe and exacerbate a global food crisis of historic proportions, this report details efforts that are supporting Ukrainian resilience and accountability while supporting farmer productivity and increasing incomes to improve food security for millions.
