USGLC Mourns the Loss of Senator Carl Levin

WASHINGTON, D.C. – USGLC President and CEO Liz Schrayer released the following statement on the passing of Senator Carl Levin:

The USGLC family mourns the loss of Senator Carl Levin, who faithfully served the people of Michigan for six terms in the U.S. Senate and worked tirelessly throughout his career to make America safer and stronger. We are grateful for Senator Levin’s unwavering voice as a champion for U.S. engagement in the world, and enormously proud that he served as the co-chair of USGLC’s Michigan Advisory Committee.

As Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senator Levin understood how critical our civilian tools of diplomacy and development, alongside defense, were to keeping America safe.. He consistently supported resources for the International Affairs Budget and co-sponsored the critical reauthorization of PEPFAR to strengthen America’s global health programs, promote our values, and save lives around the world.

After his retirement, Senator Levin continued to make a difference for Michigan and our country, joining businessman Hank Meijer, as our inaugural co-chairs of USGLC’s Michigan Advisory Committee. We celebrate his life of service as our thoughts and prayers are with the Senator’s family during this time.

Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
