USGLC CEO Statement on U.S. Global Health Commitments at G7 Summit

WASHINGTON, D.C. —The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, issued the following statement applauding U.S. commitments to COVID-19 vaccine distribution through COVAX and global health security at today’s G7 meeting.

We applaud the administration’s leadership on delivering critical investments approved by Congress in December for Gavi, the vaccine alliance, to support equitable vaccine distribution around the globe. With new variants of COVID-19 spreading around the world, we cannot stop this pandemic anywhere until we stop it everywhere. Unequal vaccine distribution will not only prolong the pandemic but could cost the global economy $9 trillion.

Today’s commitments to global health security on the world stage are critical to safeguarding Americans’ health and economic security and we hope this step will galvanize further international action towards our shared global interests of eliminating the virus and addressing its destabilizing impacts around the world. We commend this vital step and urge Congress to continue to prioritize additional and urgently needed global resources that are critical to America’s health and economic recovery.

Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
