USGLC CEO Statement on Administration’s FY19 Budget Proposal

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s President and CEO Liz Schrayer released the following statement on the Administration’s FY19 Budget Proposal:

With our own National Security Strategy recognizing that America faces an “extraordinarily dangerous world… with… threats that have intensified in recent years,” it’s incomprehensible that once again we would consider slashing one-third of our civilian footprint around the world.

Whether the serious threats are from ISIS, pandemics, or continued unrest from famines, our military leaders have been abundantly clear: We can’t respond to these dangers with military solutions alone. And that’s why the largest number of military voices ever are speaking out against these cuts to the State Department and USAID – including more than 1,200 veterans from all 50 states and more than 150 generals and admirals.

Last year, a strong bipartisan coalition in Congress rejected these same draconian cuts. I’m confident they’ll do it again.

Since 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC.org) has been bringing together bipartisan political, military, business, farmer, faith, nonprofit, and community leaders from across the country to advocate on the strategic imperative of American leadership for advancing our own security, prosperity, and values. We believe that smart investments in international assistance and diplomacy, alongside defense, can make the world safer and America stronger.
