USGLC CEO on President’s Announcement on Global COVID-19 Vaccines

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) President and CEO, Liz Schrayer, issued the following statement on the president’s announcement today on global COVID-19 vaccines:

Today’s announcement is what American leadership looks like. With the Delta variant surging and continents like Africa at just a 1% vaccination rate, it’s critical to ask what’s it worth to get this right? Delivering 110 million vaccines and additional supplies into low income countries is about saving lives and about protecting the health and economic recovery of American families.

The reality is time is not on our side. We certainly need to do more alongside our allies and while no other country is leading like the U.S., we are pleased to see President Biden calling for a global summit next month to rally others to step up and together invest in the global response that is essential to end this pandemic once and for all.

The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (www.usglc.org) is a broad-based influential network of 500 businesses and NGOs; national security and foreign policy experts; and business, faith-based, academic, military, and community leaders in all 50 states who support strategic investments to elevate development and diplomacy alongside defense in order to build a better, safer world.
