The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) is seeking an experienced and innovative Director of Communications to drive a forward-thinking communications agenda that underscores the importance of America’s global engagement. This senior position will assist in the organization’s primary mission to educate and inspire both policymakers and the public on the need to strengthen the imperative of American global leadership and the importance of diplomacy and global development.
The Director of Communications is a member of the USGLC senior management team and will lead a talented department to deepen support for our issues by maximizing a variety of dynamic communications platforms. The position reports to the Executive Director and is based in Washington, D.C.

Position Requirements
To lead USGLC’s communications efforts, this public relations leader will have at least 10 years of experience and a proven interest in international and political affairs. The incumbent will possess a strong track record of engaging and expanding a network of supporters through a combination of traditional press and social media platforms. Strong public speaking, project management, writing and interpersonal skills are required. Experience within an advocacy organization or Capitol Hill and the federal government are considered a plus.
Specific Responsibilities
- Communications Strategy. The Communications Director will lead in designing and implementing an aggressive, creative, and results-driven traditional and digital communications strategy that engages stakeholders across the political and policy landscape. The strategy will be innovative and thought-provoking, leveraging a variety of platforms to engage and grow our target audiences. The strategy will include – but not be limited to – the press, the political and public policy sectors, along with leaders from the business, NGO, military, and faith communities in Washington and around the country, seeking to shape the narrative around USGLC’s core messaging.
- Media and Press Outreach. The Director will have relationships with the traditional Washington press corps, but also know how to engage regional journalists and bloggers in both the foreign policy and political spaces to advance USGLC’s mission and agenda. The incumbent will pitch, create, and take advantage of opportunities for both USGLC leaders at the national level and high-profile leaders from states around the country to publish op-eds and serve as spokespeople in print, digital, radio, and broadcast outlets.
- Social Media and Digital Campaign Management. The Director will develop and oversee a team that drives USGLC’s growing social media platforms to amplify the organization’s engagement, voice, and advocacy across digital channels. This includes partnering with USGLC leadership to write and oversee the production of a regular cadence of social video initiatives and platforms, overseeing paid digital and advertising campaigns, and sustaining data-driven day-to-day digital operations to engage stakeholders and policymakers through consistent, creative, and visually driven content.
- Stakeholder Education and Engagement. The Director will help oversee USGLC’s email operations and community engagement agenda to educate and deepen USGLC’s reach with key stakeholders and nationwide network. This includes partnering with USGLC leadership to develop and produce regular email communications content alongside rigorous email marketing strategies to advance the organization’s education and advocacy agenda and recruit for an aggressive national and state events schedule.
- Message and Material Development. In partnership with other teams, the Director will support the creation of fresh, timely, and customized advocacy content. That content could include, but is not limited to, media messages, talking points and materials that are designed to influence both broad audiences and busy policymakers. The Director will have a strong visual eye for overseeing the design of both print and online materials that support our digital platforms and live events.
- Manage Communications Team. Manage a growing team, website vendor, writers, designers, and other communications consultants as needed. Provide mentoring, coaching, and guidance to staff. Actively participate as a member of the USGLC senior staff and contribute to organizational goals.
Compensation
Competitive salary will be offered, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
