Alexandra comes to the USGLC from the Republican Party of Iowa, serving as a field organizer for voter and coalition engagement and for support to state and local candidates. She previously represented the Automotive Service Association as a Legislative Assistant for the Redding Firm, worked as a Constituent Services Coordinator for the Republican National Committee, and served as a Legislative Intern for Congressman Paul Cook of California. Alexandra is a proud graduate of Towson University, where she earned a B.S. in political science with a concentration in national security and intelligence.
The western highland region in Guatemala, which includes a portion of the well-known dry corridor of Central America, has some of the highest levels of malnutrition, especially among children and women. In 2014 North Dakota State University and USAID’s Feed the Future teamed up to research the Western highlands agroecosystem in Guatemala.
A world away in Nebraska – which holds the distinction of having the most irrigated acres of farmland in the United States – conversations were taking place at the University of Nebraska when Mogens Bay asked then-President of the University, J.B. Milliken, what the university was doing about water issues.
In 1948, Gary Vermeer, a farmer in the central-Iowa town Pella settled by Dutch immigrants, developed a mechanical wagon hoist to ease the exhaustive job of unloading grain wagons. Upon encouragement from fellow farmers, Vermeer founded what is now Vermeer Corporation.
