USGLC Commends Senate Committee Passage of Bill to Ensure Effective Foreign Assistance

Important Legislation Builds on Efforts to Ensure International Affairs Programs are Effective

Washington, DC —USGLC Executive Director Liz Schrayer released this statement today on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s passage of the Foreign Assistance Transparency and Accountability Act of 2012 (S.3310):

“The USGLC commends the bipartisan leadership of Senators John Kerry (D-MA), Richard Lugar (R-IN), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) and original House sponsor Representative Ted Poe (R-TX) and Representative Howard Berman (D-CA) for their efforts to ensure our nation has accountable, transparent foreign assistance programs across all departments and agencies.

“In today’s tumultuous times, the need for American leadership in the world has never been greater, and results-driven foreign assistance funded through the International Affairs Budget is a cost effective way to advance our nation’s security and prosperity.  Our current economic environment requires a renewed commitment to accountability and transparency, and bipartisan efforts such as this Act will continue to ensure the resources provided for our tools of development and diplomacy are a smart investment for America.”
