Senate Stands Up for America’s Global Leadership

USGLC Urges Enactment of Senate Funding Level for Development and Diplomacy

Washington, DC — The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) released the following statement from Executive Director Liz Schrayer commending the Senate Appropriations Committee approval of $52.1 billion for State-Foreign Operations funding for the International Affairs Budget:

“We applaud the Senate Appropriations Committee for ensuring America’s global leadership with this year’s State-Foreign Ops bill. In today’s interconnected, and too often, unstable world, smart investments in development and diplomacy are critical to our national and economic security.  With funding for non war-related programs falling 15% since 2010, we applaud the strong bipartisan leadership of Chairman Inouye and Senators Cochran, Leahy, and Graham to protect these programs from further deep cuts, and we urge Congress to support no less than the Senate levels for these programs that are essential to keeping America safe and strong.”

The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (www.usglc.org) is a broad-based influential network of 400 businesses and NGOs; national security and foreign policy experts; and business, faith-based, academic and community leaders in all 50 states who support a smart power approach of elevating development and diplomacy alongside defense in order to build a better, safer world.
