Vermont manufacturers thrive thanks to its exports to overseas markets, which help support nearly 87,000 jobs in the state and $2.5 billion in goods. While Vermont is famous for its maple syrup, the state’s computer and electrical manufacturing sectors are also in high demand around the world.

• In Vermont, 86,800 jobs were supported by international trade in 2019, representing 19.7% of all jobs in the state.^1,2
• In 2020, 1,017 companies exported goods from Vermont of which 86% were small- and medium-sized enterprises. In 2018, 15,200 people were employed by affiliates of companies at least 50% foreign-owned.^3,4

• Vermont exported $2.6 billion in goods to foreign markets in 2021, an 8% increase compared to 2020 driven by continued economic recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy.⁵

• Since 1961, 1,622 Peace Corps volunteers from Vermont have served in dozens of countries overseas.¹¹
