Digital Communications Manager

The Digital Communications Manager will join a growing, fun, and creative communications team that works relentlessly to tell the story of how American development and diplomacy builds a better, safer world. This individual will assist in advancing our organization’s agenda, increasing the USGLC’s message and visibility, and growing our online following.

The right candidate will have excellent social media skills, a background in design, and a proven track record in producing convincing written materials in a variety of voices. This position on the Communications team will produce content on deadline while ensuring accuracy and maintaining consistency in style. A successful candidate for this position is an accomplished writer with experience working in government, non-profits, journalism, or related fields.

Experience working in global development or foreign policy is a significant plus. The Digital Communications Manager will report to the Deputy Communications Director and work in the USGLC’s DC office.

  • Social media. Drive content for the USGLC’s online platforms, increase engagement, and grow the organization’s social following. Provide live coverage of USGLC events and hearings.
  • Website. Recommend, create, and implement website strategies to amplify the USGLC’s voice and message. Oversee and optimize SEO and Google AdWords.
  • Digital content and campaigns. Create and curate innovative content to advance the USGLC message.
  • Creative direction. Lead on creative development and regularly generate visual and content ideas for campaigns, online features, and daily social media.
  • Tell stories. Profile USGLC members and showcase global development stories. Copy-edit materials as needed.
  • Web and social analytics. Interpret and analyze data and provide insight to maximize outreach.
  • Graphic design. Design digital communication products for targeted audiences.
  • Vendors. Work closely with external web developers and printers to execute USGLC projects.
  • Communications team. Promote an environment of inclusiveness and share best practices to create a best-in-class communications team.


  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years experience in digital communications with a broad portfolio of work.
  • Experience in social media, editing, design, and managing the distribution of content for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability in creating quality materials in multiple formats under time pressure, and handling multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
  • Proven experience with all social media tools and platforms is required.
  • Proficiency with WordPress, basic HTML, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator is strongly desired.
  • Strong collaboration skills; experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • A flexible team player who shares responsibility and credit.
