The USGLC has a strong presence in Florida, where the international affairs budget is vital to the local economy.  From 1992 to 2006 the number of jobs in Florida dependent on international trade nearly doubled to almost 20%.   Join the USGLC in helping build a more prosperous and safer Florida.

FLA_icon4Impact ‘08 in Florida Launch Event: May 20th in Miami,  Impact ‘08 in Florida, officially launched. The event featured remarks from former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security and US Coast Guard Commandant Admiral James Loy and Robert Mallett, Pfizer Inc’s Senior Vice President for Worldwide Public Affairs and Policy and President of the Pfizer Foundation. Following their illustrative remarks, the Executive Director of the Miami Herald moderated an engaging panel discussion on the future of America’s foreign policy. More than 120 guests, including many Impact 08 in Florida Advisory Committee members were in attendance.

FLA_icon3Ari Fleischer and Gen. Barry McCaffrey Discuss Global Engagement: Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer and former head of U.S. Southern Command Gen. Barry McCaffrey, participated in a foreign policy discussion moderated by CBS4 Miami News Anchor Antonio Mora, September 19, 2008 in Coral Gables. The program also included welcoming remarks by Florida House Majority Leader Adam Hasner and Florida House Democratic Whip Ronald Brise. More than 300 business and community leaders attended the event.

FLA_icon1Sign-On Ad: In conjunction with the event, more than 80 business, political and civic leaders from the Center’s Impact ‘08 in Florida Advisory Committee signed a full page advertisement in the English and Spanish editions of the Miami Herald. The ad calls on “all of the 2008 presidential candidates to elevate and strengthen our non-military tools of engagement to build a better, safer, more prosperous Florida, America and world.”

FLA_icon2Florida Leaders Publish Op-Ed: In addition to the ad, the Miami Herald published an op-ed, “Work plan for next American president” from three members of the Center’s Impact ‘08 in Florida Advisory Committee, Adm. Robert J. Natter, USN (Ret.), former Commander of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, Barry E. Johnson, President & CEO of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, and Dr. Joel C. Hunter, Senior Pastor of Northland, A Church Distributed.
