Additional Resources Essential to Counter ISIS and Provide Humanitarian Assistance in Middle East

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s President and CEO Liz Schrayer released the following statement on the Administration’s proposed FY17 budget amendment to counter ISIS and provide urgent humanitarian assistance in the Middle East:

Given the growing threats facing America around the world – particularly with the rise of ISIS – this proposal for the State Department and USAID is essential to keeping our nation safe.

We know all too well that what happens overseas threatens us here at home. And if we don’t deal with crises abroad, they end up on our doorstep. Our diplomats and relief workers are on the front lines alongside our service members in the fight against ISIS. In order for them to do their jobs that keep our nation safe, then we’ve got to have their backs and get them the resources they need.

And with the millions displaced by war and conflict in Iraq and Syria and beyond, the need for life-saving humanitarian assistance for families and children is extraordinary, particularly with the latest military offensives.

We urge Congress to pass this critical amendment as quickly as possible.
