Results-Driven Foreign Assistance Matters to U.S. Leadership

USGLC Grateful for Berman’s Legacy of Leadership Building the International Affairs Budget

Washington, DC—The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition released the following statement today from Executive Director Liz Schrayer on efforts to modernize U.S. Foreign Assistance programs:

“Throughout his three decade career in the House, Rep. Berman has been a tireless advocate for   effective foreign assistance programs, and today he reminds us why we are so grateful for his legacy and leadership.  As one of the closing acts of his remarkable career in the House of Representatives, Mr. Berman has introduced legislation to ensure results-driven foreign assistance.

“To stay competitive, engaged, and lead in the world today, America needs to ensure our foreign assistance programs are as transparent, accountable, and efficient as possible.  Our tools of engagement today are very different than they were back in 1961 when the Foreign Assistance Act was passed, and we welcome efforts to move the ball forward to modernize our development and diplomatic operations.

“We applaud Mr. Berman for his extraordinary legacy of support for American engagement in the world, and for once again providing leadership to ensure strong and effective foreign assistance.”
