The news is out that the leading candidate to replace Jack Lew at the State Department is Thomas Nides, the current COO of Morgan Stanley.  “In the Loop” broke the news yesterday, and the Financial Times has a story today.  Nides fits the job description with both Washington and financial sector experience to handle the budget and management portfolio at State.  He’s worked on Capitol Hill and as Chief of Staff in the U.S. Trade Representative’s office.  Laura Rozen at Politico says to expect an announcement shortly.  Meanwhile, Jack Lew’s confirmation hearings to be the new OMB Director take place today in the Senate.
