House Cuts International Affairs Budget Request
Yesterday the House State-Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee passed via voice vote an FY11 draft bill that cuts $4 billion, or 7%, from President Obama’s International Affairs Budget request. CQ quoted the USGLC’s press release as “voic[ing] disappointment with the reduced funding relative to the president’s request. ‘Now is not the time to short change our non-military tools of development and diplomacy given today’s global challenges,’ the statement said.” A GOP amendment to reduce most of the bill back to FY10 levels was defeated on a party line vote. A summary table of the bill can be found here.
