In recognition of the one-year anniversary of President Obama’s speech in Cairo last June, the White House is highlighting its efforts in the past year to increase engagement with the Muslim world.  While public scrutiny has tended to focus on the high politics of the Middle East peace process and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, this initiative, led by the Global Engagement Directorate at the NSC, seeks to pursue a wide range of avenues in which the Administration can engage with the everyday lives of Muslims in the world.  In addition to the widely publicized Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship in April, the website highlights dozens of other areas of engagement in the broad categories of Expanding Economic Opportunity, Science, Technology and Innovation, Education & Exchange Programs, Health, Democracy and Human Rights, Religious Freedom, Women’s Equality, Confronting Violent Extremism, Nuclear Proliferation, and Efforts to Bring About Middle East Peace.
