Today is World Water Day, an attempt to bring awareness of the nearly 900 million people across the world who don’t have access to a safe water supply. In a teleconference last week, Maria Otero, Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs, made clear the importance of water to the Administration’s development agenda. “Water has to be fully integrated into development efforts and foreign policy efforts,” she said. Currently, the U.S. Government allocates $1.0 billion per year for promotion of access to water across the globe.  Secretary Clinton is scheduled to speak on World Water Day at 10 am this morning.
