Yesterday afternoon, before a packed audience, Sec. Clinton addressed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the importance of fully funding the President’s $58.5 billion International Affairs Budget request. During her testimony, she noted, “We can bury our heads in the sand and pay the consequences later, or we can make hard-nosed, targeted investments now – addressing the security challenges of today while building a foundation for security and prosperity in the future.”

Earlier that morning, Sec. Clinton also testified before the Senate State, Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee. She noted three major areas the State Department is seeking increased investments, including funding for the “Frontline States” of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq, increases for key development initiatives – global health, food security, climate change, and humanitarian assistance – and increased civilian capacity to ensure both State and USAID have the personnel and resources to carry out their respective missions.
