The IAB to be Exempt from Budget Freeze
With President Obama giving his State of the Union address tonight, observers will be listening closely for budget details. As part of the national security budget, the international affairs budget will be exempted from the three-year spending freeze announced earlier in the week by the Administration. Rob Nabors, deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, said on a conference call Tuesday that “the entire 150 account will be exempted” from the three- year freeze. The 150 account includes funding for the State Department, USAID, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation, among others. The President will officially unveil his FY 2011 budget on Monday. In related news, Steve Radelet, formerly of the Center for Global Development and former USGLC board member, has begun his new job as senior advisor on development in Secretary Clinton’s office.
