The USGLC is looking forward to USAID nominee Rajiv Shah’s confirmation hearing, which is being held this morning. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is expected to vote him out of Committee on December 8 and should be brought to the floor shortly after that. President Obama will be making a long-awaited speech announcing his Afghanistan policy tonight, which involves sending 30,000 additional troops to the war-torn country. In his speech, the President is also expected to mention a new international conference in January that will look at how the international community can better support governance, economic development, and civilian leadership issues, including the possible creation of a civilian counterpart to Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the Commander of ISAF.
