Secretary of Health and Human Services

The Department of Health and Human Services performs a substantial role in U.S. global health efforts, through the Office of Global Health Affairs and agencies including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institute of Health (NIH), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Under the overall leadership of Secretary Sebelius, HHS and agency staffs address the threat of transnational diseases, such as H1N1 and tuberculosis; work with partners and other government agencies to set policy and implement health programs around the world; and provide a wide range of technical assistance, including crisis response.
