HamburgMargaret Hamburg

Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration

As Commissioner of the FDA, Margaret Hamburg will support Obama’s public heath prevention and wellness priorities, and lead efforts to adapt the agency’s food and drug safety system to an increasingly global world. Hamburg advised the Secretary of Health and Human Services on bioterrorist attacks during the Clinton Administration, and has also served as New York City health commissioner. Though her job is primarily focused on the U.S., Hamburg’s involvement in food and drug safety gives her a role in policy surrounding global health, bioterrorism, and other international concerns.
