Senior Director for Democracy, Development, and Stabilization

Gayle Smith is the first Senior Director for Democracy and Development at the National Security Council. In this role, Smith provides strategic focus to global development efforts, through projects such as Presidential Study Directive to review global development policy across the U.S. government. In addition to twenty years of experience as a journalist and consultant to international organizations, Smith was also a member of the NSC during the Clinton administration, serving as special assistant to President Clinton and Senior Director for African Affairs.
