As Deputy National Security Advisor, Denis McDonough approaches foreign policy from an interagency, whole-of-government perspective. In addition to other responsibilities, McDonough runs deputies meetings, where representatives from departments and agencies throughout the government discuss interagency foreign policy options and prepare recommendations for President Obama.
