Is anything happening in Congress, you might ask?  As tensions run high on Capitol Hill over health care and the President’s strategy in Afghanistan, Congress is still at work and continuing to move forward with the FY10 Appropriations bills.  The Senate last night passed its seventh appropriations bill, the $626 billion Defense Appropriations.  Today, the Senate turns its attention to the Commerce-Justice-Science bill, which is expected to pass late tonight.  Once done, only four bills remain, including the all-important $48.7 billion FY10 State, Foreign Ops bill, the largest component of the International Affairs Budget.  It’s still uncertain when the Senate will take up the measure.  Floor time is not guaranteed as Majority Leader Reid canceled next week’s recess to begin the health care debate.
