Today, the House is poised to complete consideration of all 12 Appropriations bills, as it takes up the FY10 Defense Appropriations bill.  Completion of all 12 bills comes just before the House is prepared to adjourn for its August recess.  The last time the House passed all 12 bills was in 2007.  With passage of all 12 bills, the FY10 International Affairs Budget stands at $51 billion, $2.9 billion or 5.4% below the Administration’s request.

This week, the Senate resumed work on its respective appropriations bills. So far, the Senate Appropriations Committee has passed 9 of 12 FY10 Appropriations bills. The Senate is scheduled to complete mark-up of two more bills today, leaving the Defense Appropriations bill for last.  As the Senate does not adjourn for recess until Friday, August 7, there remains time for the Committee to finish consideration of all 12 bills before it adjourns. Earlier this month, the Committee marked-up the $48.7 billion FY10 State, Foreign Operations Appropriations bill and the Senate is expected to take up the bill in September once it returns from recess.
